Device Properties Palette

Command

Command Description
ATPROPERTIES Open the Device Properties palette for selected devices

Ribbon: FireCAD > Devices > Device Property Editor

Prerequisites

  • A FireCAD project must be open
  • One or more devices must be selected in the drawing

Overview

The Device Properties palette displays a grid of custom properties that can be applied to selected devices. Properties are used for device labeling, riser diagrams, and reports. You can add new properties, edit values, and control visibility and display order.

Layout

The palette contains a data grid with the following columns:

Column Description
Property Name Name of the custom property (e.g., "PNL", "Location", "Floor")
Property Value Value to apply to the selected devices
Is Visible Checkbox — when checked, the property appears on device labels
Display Order Numeric value controlling the order properties appear on labels
Keep Value Checkbox — when checked, the value persists when the palette reloads

Built-In Properties

Several preset properties are included by default:

  • PNL — Panel name (used as circuit prefix)
  • Additional preset properties based on your project configuration

Built-in property names cannot be changed, but their values are editable.

Auto Increment Device Names

A checkbox at the bottom of the palette enables automatic incrementing of numeric suffixes in property values. When applying properties to multiple devices, each device receives a sequentially incremented value:

  • Example: "FA-1" becomes "FA-1", "FA-2", "FA-3" for three selected devices

Multiple Device Selection

When multiple devices are selected and they have different values for the same property, the Property Value column shows "(multiple values selected)". Setting a new value replaces all selected devices' values.

Buttons

Button Action
Add New Property Add a custom property row to the grid
Clear Values Clear all property values (names remain)
Apply Save changes to the database and close
Cancel Discard changes and close

Steps

  1. Select one or more devices in the drawing
  2. Type ATPROPERTIES in the AutoCAD command line
  3. Edit property values in the grid
  4. Optionally check Is Visible to display properties on device labels
  5. Set Display Order to control label positioning
  6. Click Apply to save

Tips

  • The Keep Value checkbox is useful when applying the same value across multiple batches of devices
  • Property names must be unique — you cannot create a custom property with the same name as a built-in property
  • After applying, device labels refresh automatically to reflect property changes
