Opening the Device Editor

Command

Command Description
ATOPEN_DEVICE_EDITOR Launch the Master Template Editor application

Ribbon: FireCAD > Edit > Launch Project Device Editor

Prerequisites

  • A FireCAD project must be open
  • The Master Template Editor application must be installed

Overview

The ATOPEN_DEVICE_EDITOR command launches the Master Template Editor as a separate application. The Master Template Editor is a standalone tool for creating and editing device definitions, circuit templates, and block configurations in the project database.

Steps

  1. Type ATOPEN_DEVICE_EDITOR in the AutoCAD command line
  2. The Master Template Editor opens in a new window
  3. The editor automatically connects to your project's database
  4. Make your changes in the editor
  5. Close the editor when finished — changes are saved to the database

What the Master Template Editor Provides

The Master Template Editor is a full-featured database management application for:

  • Device definitions — Part numbers, descriptions, electrical properties
  • Circuit templates — Circuit types, wire configurations, current limits
  • Block configurations — Associate AutoCAD blocks with device definitions
  • Assembly configurations — Multi-component device assemblies

Important Notes

  • The editor runs as a separate application — it is not embedded in AutoCAD
  • Changes made in the editor are written directly to the project database
  • After making changes, return to AutoCAD and run ATREFRESH_LABELS or ATUPDATE_PROJECT to see the effects in your drawings
  • The editor connects using your local SQL Server LocalDB instance

Tips

  • Use the Master Template Editor for detailed database work that goes beyond what the Project Parts Update dialog offers
  • The editor must be installed separately — check your FireCAD installation for the Master Template Editor component
  • If the editor fails to launch, verify the installation path in the Windows registry
