Setting Vertical Constraints

Command

Command Description
ATSET_VERTICAL_CONSTRAINTS Assign selected devices to a named vertical constraint group for the riser diagram

Ribbon: FireCAD > Riser > Set Vertical Constraints

Prerequisites

  • A FireCAD project must be open
  • The active drawing must be part of the project

Overview

A vertical constraint group lines devices up in the riser diagram. Every device you give the same group name is placed in the same riser column, so they stack vertically in one line, even when they sit on different circuits or floors.

Vertical constraints do not change device placement on the floor plan, and they do not affect wire length or voltage drop calculations.

Steps

  1. Type ATSET_VERTICAL_CONSTRAINTS in the AutoCAD command line (or use the ribbon button)
  2. Existing group names are shown next to each device on the active drawing
  3. Select the devices you want to line up and press Enter
  4. Type a name for the vertical constraint group (for example STAIR-A)
  5. Repeat for other groups, or press Esc to finish
  6. In Riser Options, make sure Apply User Vertical Constraints is checked
  7. Regenerate the riser diagram

Tips

  • Group names are plain text. Devices that share a name are aligned; use a different name for each column you want to line up.
  • User-set constraints only take effect when Apply User Vertical Constraints is checked in Riser Options. The automatic alignment options there (such as Auto-Align Branch Taps) defer to your constraints where both apply.
  • To separate floors into their own rows of the riser, set device elevations instead: select each floor's devices and give them a floor number with Setting Elevations.
