Connecting Devices to a Circuit

Command

Command Description
ATCONNECT Connect selected devices to the active circuit

Prerequisites

  • A FireCAD project must be open
  • An active circuit must be selected in the Circuits palette
  • The active drawing must be part of the project

Overview

The ATCONNECT command adds selected devices to the currently active circuit. Connected devices become part of the circuit's topology, receiving wire labels, addresses, and appearing in circuit-based reports.

Steps

  1. Select the target circuit in the Circuits palette (it becomes the active circuit)
  2. Type ATCONNECT in the AutoCAD command line
  3. You are prompted: "Select devices to connect to '[Circuit Name]':"
  4. Select one or more compatible devices in the drawing
  5. Press Enter to confirm the selection
  6. The devices are added to the circuit
  7. You can continue selecting more devices (press Escape to finish)

How It Works

  • Selected devices are added to the circuit as non-origin devices (they are endpoints or intermediate devices, not the circuit source)
  • Each device receives a sequence number (MasterSequence) in the order it was connected
  • Compatible devices are highlighted during selection to help you identify valid targets
  • After connection, device labels and wirepath labels update automatically

Tips

  • Only devices compatible with the circuit's type can be connected — incompatible devices won't be selectable
  • To connect a device at a specific position in the circuit sequence, use ATINSERT_IN_CIRCUIT instead
  • To change the circuit a device is on, disconnect it first with ATDISCONNECT, then reconnect
  • After connecting devices, use ATAUTO_DRAW_ACTIVE_WIREPATH to draw the wirepath between them
