Reset menus, palettes, ribbon positions, and other workspace state to defaults
If FireCAD is opening with broken or out-of-place menus, missing toolbars, palettes that will not return to their default positions, ribbons stuck in an unexpected layout, or commands that no longer respond as they should, the fastest fix is to reset the local FireCAD settings to factory defaults.
The Settings Reset Utility is a small, signed Windows program that does this for you in one step.
It supports both FireCAD 2024 and FireCAD 2026 in a single run. The utility detects which versions are installed and only touches what it finds, so it is safe to run on any machine.
What it does
The utility renames the FireCAD settings folders in your AppData and clears the registry profile that holds workspace, ribbon, palette, and dialog state. The next time FireCAD launches, it rebuilds these from defaults automatically.
Both the renamed folders and the registry export are kept as backups, so nothing is permanently deleted. If you need to roll back, you can rename the backup folder back to its original name and double-click the .reg file to restore the previous registry profile.
The utility specifically resets:
FireCAD 2026
%APPDATA%\Inspect Point\FireCAD 2026 - English%LOCALAPPDATA%\Inspect Point\FireCAD 2026 - EnglishHKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Inspect Point\FireCAD\R30\CGFCAD26-*
FireCAD 2024
%APPDATA%\Cadgen Software LLC\Cadgen FireCAD 2024 - English%LOCALAPPDATA%\Cadgen Software LLC\Cadgen FireCAD 2024 - EnglishHKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cadgen Software LLC\Cadgen FireCAD\R28\CGFCAD24-*HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cadgen Software LLC\Cadgen FireCAD (User)\R28\CGFCAD24-*
The corresponding folders for non-English installs (e.g. FireCAD 2026 - French) are matched automatically.

How to run
-
Close FireCAD completely. The utility will warn you if it detects
cgfcad24.exeorcgfcad26.exerunning. If FireCAD is open, the rename will fail and you will need to close it and run the utility again. - Download
FireCadSettingsReset.exefrom the link above. - Double-click the file to run it. A console window will open showing what the utility found and what it will rename. Each item is labeled with the FireCAD version it belongs to.
- Type
Yand press Enter to confirm. The reset takes about a second. - Press Enter to close the window.
- Launch FireCAD. The application will recreate its settings, menus, and palette layout from defaults on first start.
Where the backups go
After running, you can find backups here in case you need to recover anything:
-
Renamed AppData folders, alongside the original location. For example, on a machine with both versions installed:
%APPDATA%\Inspect Point\FireCAD 2026 - English.backup-YYYY-MM-DD_HHmmss%LOCALAPPDATA%\Inspect Point\FireCAD 2026 - English.backup-YYYY-MM-DD_HHmmss%APPDATA%\Cadgen Software LLC\Cadgen FireCAD 2024 - English.backup-YYYY-MM-DD_HHmmss%LOCALAPPDATA%\Cadgen Software LLC\Cadgen FireCAD 2024 - English.backup-YYYY-MM-DD_HHmmss -
Exported registry profiles, in a single shared backups folder:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\FireCadSettingsReset-Backups\The
.regfiles are named after the registry path so backups for different versions never collide.
You can delete these once you have confirmed everything is working correctly.
Restoring a previous state
If you need to put settings back the way they were:
- Close FireCAD.
- Rename the backup folders, removing the
.backup-...suffix to restore the original folder names. - Double-click the
.regfile(s) in%LOCALAPPDATA%\FireCadSettingsReset-Backups\and confirm the import in the Windows prompt. - Launch FireCAD.
When this utility helps and when it does not
This utility resets the local user's FireCAD settings. It does not touch the FireCAD database, project files, drawings, license activation, or installation files. It is safe to run any time and on any machine; it never affects another user's settings.
If you are unsure whether your problem is a settings issue or something else, contact support before running the utility.
