Replacing Block References

Command

Command Description
ATREPLACE_BLOCKREFS Replace selected block references with a different block

Ribbon: FireCAD > Devices > Replace Selection With Block

Prerequisites

  • A FireCAD project must be open
  • Block references must be selected or available for selection

Overview

The ATREPLACE_BLOCKREFS command replaces selected block references in the drawing with alternative blocks. You can configure how the replacement handles alignment, rotation, and scale to match the originals or use new values.

Steps

  1. Type ATREPLACE_BLOCKREFS in the AutoCAD command line
  2. You are prompted: "Select entities to replace or [ALIGNMENT/ROTATION/SCALE]"
  3. Select blocks to replace, or type a keyword to adjust settings first:

Setting Options

Before selecting blocks, you can configure replacement behavior using keywords:

Keyword Options Description
ALIGNMENT CENTER or ORIGIN Center: Align replacement block to the center of the original. Origin: Align to the insertion point
ROTATION AUTO or NONE Auto: Match the original block's rotation. None: Use the replacement block's default rotation
SCALE Numeric value Scale factor for the replacement. Enter 0 to use the replacement block's default scale
  1. Select the block references to replace
  2. FireCAD replaces each selected block with the new block definition, applying the configured alignment, rotation, and scale settings

Default Settings

The default values for alignment, rotation, and scale are stored in your project settings and can also be configured in the Options Editor under the Tools tab.

Tips

  • Use ALIGNMENT CENTER when replacing blocks of different sizes to keep them visually centered
  • Use SCALE 0 to preserve the replacement block's intended scale rather than stretching it to match
  • The replacement settings persist across uses within the same session
  • You can pre-select blocks before running the command (pickset is supported)
