Overview
These commands set the color, linetype, and lineweight properties of drawing entities to either ByBlock or ByLayer mode. This standardizes how entities inherit their visual properties.
- ByBlock: Entities inherit properties from the block reference they belong to
- ByLayer: Entities inherit properties from their assigned layer
Steps
- Type the desired command in the AutoCAD command line
- All entities in the drawing are updated to the specified property mode
When to Use
- Standardizing a drawing received from an external source
- Cleaning up inconsistent property assignments
- Preparing blocks for consistent color-by-layer display
