'File not found' error when using the 'Launch Project Device Editor' command

Symptoms

'File not found' error occurs when trying to use the Project Device Editor. The editor does not open as expected.

Resolution

Allow an exception for 'acad.exe' to your antivirus software, as well as 'amts_master_template_utility.exe' which is located in multiple subfolders of the FireCAD add-in directory. In the latest version, the paths to this file are listed below-

  • C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\Cadgen FireCAD.bundle\Contents\AnyCPU\2016\amts_master_template_utility.exe
  • C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\Cadgen FireCAD.bundle\Contents\AnyCPU\2017\amts_master_template_utility.exe
  • C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\Cadgen FireCAD.bundle\Contents\AnyCPU\2018\amts_master_template_utility.exe
  • C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\Cadgen FireCAD.bundle\Contents\AnyCPU\2019\amts_master_template_utility.exe
  • C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\Cadgen FireCAD.bundle\Contents\AnyCPU\2021\amts_master_template_utility.exe

Temporary fix-

Copy 'amts_master_template_utility.exe' from 'C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\AnyCPU\2016' or a folder where it is found into the add-in version folder you are using. For AutoCAD 2022, use the 'C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\AnyCPU\2021' folder.

Depending on your antivirus settings, this file may be removed again until settings are adjusted.

Cause

The cause of this error has been duplicated by some antivirus software that heuristically prevents Process.Start() commands from within AutoCAD. FireCAD launches the Project Device Editor executable 'amts_master_template_utility.exe' using this command.
