Overview
When a FireCAD symbol is selected in model space, several grips appear. The square grips let you move attributes or the block itself. The round grip above the symbol is used to rotate the symbol without rotating its attributes.
The Issue
After running the Reset Device Block Definitions command, the round rotation grip may fail to rotate the block. This is a known issue and will be resolved in an upcoming release.
Why it happens
Reset Device Block Definitions replaces every device block definition in the drawing with the copy stored in the project database. The rotation grip itself survives that replacement, but the block geometry is replaced, so the rotation is left pointing at geometry that no longer exists. The grip is still displayed, it simply has nothing assigned to it, which is why the symbol appears to refuse to rotate.
Restarting AutoCAD, or deleting and re-adding the drawing, will not clear it. The block definition has to be repaired.
Fix It Yourself
You can repair the affected block in the Block Editor:
- Select the block and open it in the Block Editor (
BEDIT). - Select the rotation action.
- Reassign its selection set, picking the symbol geometry.
- Leave the attributes and text out of the selection. The purpose of the round grip is to rotate the symbol without rotating its attributes, so including them would make the labels swing with the symbol.
- Save the block and close the Block Editor.
The rotation grip will work again on that block.

Avoiding It
Reset Device Block Definitions is intended for restoring catalog definitions to a drawing, and it also resets every attribute to its default location and orientation. It is not a routine command, and it is not the right tool for fixing displaced attributes. Avoid running it on a drawing you have adjusted unless you specifically want the database definitions back.
