How to Show Class A Return Wiring

Overview

When a circuit is wired as Class A, the wiring returns from the last device on the circuit back to the panel, forming a closed loop. FireCAD represents this configuration with a dedicated Class A Return device from the generic device palette. This article walks through placing and connecting that device.

Prerequisites

  • A FireCAD project must be open
  • The project must use the Generic project template, which includes the Class A Return device

Step 1: Place the Class A Return Device

Open the Device Palette and filter for return to locate the Class A Return device.

Place the device next to the panel the circuits will return to. Most projects use one Class A Return device per panel.

Step 2: Connect the Return Device to a Circuit

Select any circuit from the panel and click Connect. The Class A Return device will highlight; connect it as the last device on the circuit.

The connected device list will reflect the length of the return wire, and wirefill will be shown on any wirepath segments drawn back to the Class A Return device.

Notes

  • Each Class A Return device can terminate up to 10 circuits.
  • For projects with multiple panels, place a separate Class A Return device next to each panel.
  • There is no separate setting to convert a circuit from Class B to Class A — placing and connecting the Class A Return device is the mechanism.
